Thanksgiving & Gratitude

Fall in Colorado is such a wonderful time of year. The temperatures dropped early in October, and we had a snow storm a week before Halloween. It was a beauty to behold! It started snowing around 3pm, and kept going until after we were asleep. We woke to 6 inches of a beautiful snow blanket over our house and yard. It was a sunny day, which was perfect for enjoying the cold fluff. We walked the few blocks down to the middle school with our sleds and were happily surprised to find the longest icicles we'd ever touched! Later at home we played Phase 10 by the fireplace (which we had just turned on for the season the day before the snow storm!).

Thanksgiving 2020 was small and sweet with just the four of us at home together. We gratefully feasted on traditional fare, even adding back the gluten! (Some time soon I will blog about my latest adventures in food and feeding myself and our family.)

It was a cool and sunshiny day and the next day was a little warmer and we played outside and decked the halls for Christmas 2020. On Saturday I made my 4th loaf of sourdough bread, and it turned out really lovely. I started the levain/preferment on Thursday night after dinner, then Saturday about 9am I started my loaf and by 5pm same day it was in the oven. Making sourdough at high altitude means less wait time, because proofing happens so much more quickly here!

In the pics below you'll notice Lila is honing her skills. Christmas tunes make for the best motivator to get a kid playing the piano. In the photo from Thanksgiving dinner she is mixing her own specialty drink: seltzer water, lemon, stevia, and some cranberry sauce. She said it was good :o)

I have much to be grateful for this year. Most especially that I find myself and my family well and despite everything in the world that has happened in 2020, I have everything that means the most to me <3
