Happy Spring! March was just as you might expect. We had windy days, rainy days, sunny days, the shift to daylight savings time, beautiful blooms and the return of green grass. The winter thaw happened and we are grateful to increase our time outdoors and breathe in the fresh spring air.
Right before March came, we celebrated Walter's birthday at the end of February. One of our sweet yarn friends gave Walter a rock painting kit, Grandma T came for the birthday dinner, new Legos were played with, and we played a new favorite game (Science Ninjas). As for food celebrations, we enjoyed cinnamon rolls in the morning and chocolate lava cakes in the evening to celebrate Walter.
Speaking of food, we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with reading of some Irish folk tales and making Irish beef stew and Irish soda bread. The meal was enjoyed by all and the soda bread was a pleasant change for us, with caraway seeds and raisins to tickle our taste buds.
The crocheting and knitting continued in March. Lila learned new stitches first, then taught them to Walter and I. I made Walter a pair of sweater boots for his birthday, and I made my first sweaters for sweet babies in the family. The sweaters were a joy to make and a great learning experience. It is wonderful to have babies to make small things for to learn new skills! I will be honored to have my first little sweater creations worn by the beautiful babes.
I also made me and Lila pairs of spring/summer crocheted slippers. Those were also quite fun and satisfying to make. Making crocheted slippers on flip flop bottoms makes for a relatively quick project; about 3-4 hours total, which I enjoy spending over a couple afternoons in the park sitting in the sunshine and taking short yoga breaks during the process. Have you heard of 'cottage core'? When I sit in the grass at the park and knit or crochet I feel like I'm living a cottage core fantasy, ha ha!
Other randomness from the month of March was a flat tire on our way home from the park (no problem, and a nice lesson for the kids!); reading books about Charlotte Mason homeschooling, ayurveda, crocheting, and spirituality; family time coloring together a zen doodle I made months and months ago; trying a fresh dragonfruit (it was so beautiful and delicious--similar to a kiwi in texture, but totally its own thing!); sitting on rocks in the river; voting in the local City Council election and putting my ballot in a tampered with ballot box; the first baby doves of the season being born and frozen (sadly I needed to go up in the tree and remove the poor babies); first spring bulbs in our yard popping up with beautiful daffodils and a tulip.
